Description
The subterranean world from H. P. Lovecraft's The Mound. Full view strongly recommended.
This took me way longer than it should. It started as a practice speedpainting but it took me 4 days to complete. Well, since the point of this exercise is to practice every day rather than produce a painting on a daily basis I'm still ok with it.
I had to scrap some content (and hours of work) too. Originally there was supposed to be a temple in the right bottom corner but I couldn't get rid of sort of a cartoonish look of the damned thing and I also didn't manage to paint golden doors and roof even after looking at some reference pictures. Man, gold is hard
(Note to self: learn to paint: a. ancient evil temples, b. gold)
Finally I decided I'd place some ruins and pillars there and that worked quite well.
Anyway, I feel there's some improvement in my skills after these few weeks but there's still much more to learn.
P.S.: There's only some kind of ambient light down there, so I don't think there would be much apparent shadows. Just in case you point that out
